Paleochora - trips and beaches
After one hour gentle drive from Kaliviani through the wonderful mountain landscape we reach the nice little town Paläochora on the south coast. White painted flat houses give the town its nice charm. At the promenade near the sea by the little harbour are some taverns, fish taverns and pizza shops located.
There are two beaches, one on each side, waiting for us. One of them is very long and sandy, the other quite stony but more private. The latter you find at the end of the promenade.
But first, I like to sit in front of one of the coffeehouse in the middle of the town at the main road cross. With a cold frappe beside me, I like to watch the big Lorries and how exactly they are able to make the narrow bench there . Nowhere else you watch it better than here!
Afterwards I feel tempted to go for a walk through the colourful and sympatric shopping street. Here you can find nice beachwear or other modern clothes and also many kinds of souvenirs to give away or even for yourself. Shoes, of course, and fishing fittings are offered too. A kiosk runs newspapers in many languages.
Paläochora, the romantic town animates you for making photos and do n’t miss a visit of the wonderful big church which looks like a big wedding cake. In there you can see very good icons and new painted wall drawings.
Back to the beaches: One of them I have already explained to you. The other beach, a long and sandy one is located right hand coming into the town and offers sun beds. Going into the sea is easy because it’s flat and gentile. So it’s nice for children and older people too. When we have a windy day you can watch the surfer having fun with the waves. If you drive the coast westwards, there are some more, mostly stony beaches, but to lying is easy because the stones are round. In some of these bays you can jump of the rocks into the deep water - if you are not afraid. It’s fun!!
