Beaches - by foot - Ellafonisi
After about one hour driving on the asphalt road along the west coast with amazing views like looking out of an airplane we reach Ellafonisi. Wonderful smelling pine trees announce a different world. It feels like landing on a different planet! But before we start the last 800 meter on the dirt road, we should make a stop at the monastery Krissokalitzitas. Two years ago some of the old cells of the monks are restored and became a museum.. Now you can feel the older tim es under the occupation of the Turks. Everything is worked out and decorated with much love and signs explaining in many languages the meaning of what we see. 2 euro entrance it’s really worth it. All over the year one monk and a nun still live there. After this culture highlight we drive now to the wonderful sandy beach. Near the parking place there are sun beds for rent, a canteen for small spontaneously hunger and some little shops offers air mattresses and things like that. Who wants to s eparate should take everything he needs and walk through the gentile flat water to the island. Because it stands under nature conservation here sun beds are forbidden. So make sure to take enough sun protection with you. Parts with wonderful pink coral sand are corresponding with the clean blue of the sea. Going into the sea is easy because it is sandy and flat. The sea invites you for hanging around and let go. At the evening we will be blessed with one of the best sunsets. In the village above are some restaurants located to give you energy for your way back home.
